Cabbage Patch Hospital |
Ansley with cut out CP Kids in garden Valorie with her favorit CP Kid which she named Varona Kathryn Ansley fits right in with the crowd - wonder what she was thinking about? Valorie says her dream came true! We enjoyed the CP Hospital sooo much we went back on Saturday morning...the highlight for Valorie was assisting in picking out a name for the first baby born that day - a blonde-haired blue-eyed boy which became Peyton Cameron (after her Uncle!!) More pix will be available of the whole visit on my photologue at I've Been Framed!! Labels: Activities, grandchildren, personal |

PHOTO HUNTERS: Creative? You bet!! |
I'm an retired school marm - that's me! About three years before I medically retired, I purchased this old desk set from the Winton Blount Office Estate for $50.00 all four pieces. Although not nearly as beautiful or creative as my desk, the two overly large filing cabinets (SOLID HEAVY OAK) adorn either side of my bed and the 8' long credenza and two cabinets serve as hubby's and my chest of drawers and nightstands. The wood on those pieces were nearly perfect and needed no extra refinishing. However, the desk was another story! Stained with rings from coffee mugs and dotted with black and red magic markers as well as dings and dents, I got the idea for this desk. I coated the desk with a light gray sealer, then painted the whole thing yellow (MY fav color.) After it dried I painted random angled and width white stripes and stenciled red and blue stars and hearts. My daughter took actual hand drawn pictures that I had saved from some of my students and projected them onto the sides of the desk. Using tempera paints she carefully matched colors to the drawings and shellacked the entire piece to prevent the paint from chipping or cracking. Finally, I took some of my favorite quotes and carefully printed them on the top and in between paintings to remind me of how very important it was to be the best teacher I could be each day as there is NO "substitute" for good appropriate teaching. Students, parents, and fellow teachers loved hanging out by my magical desk!! For three years, it caught an earful each school day of priceless statements and watched as my younsters grew from day-to-day blossoming on to the next level in the educational system. Then PD struck me, and after a very mentally painful decision, I retired to home to get stronger. I still go volunteer throughout the school term and reminesce with colleagues and former students about - you guessed it - that colorful old desk! My desk was headed for eBay when I went back after Christmas break 2003 to rescue it! Seems the principal at the time thought I had 'left it' for the school to raise funds for technology. I adored my 'job' as Tech Ed, but my desk was far more priceless than any monies could have been raised! After all, the contributors to its designs were near and dear to my heart! I hope you enjoy my contribution to PH Creative as much as I enjoy sitting at my desk, reading books while grandchildren sit in my lap, or while I work there on the websites I design and maintain, or sometimes where I just lay my head down and think on the good things that the MASTER CREATOR gave us to visually enjoy! Xshot Contest nears an end - |
One last appeal- The contest ends tomorrow at noon (Drew's time). I would really like to be the recipient of first place as not only the Xshot is a prized gift (and would be very helpful to me with my physical diability of PD) but I'd really LOVE to have that subscription to ProFlickr for the next year. SOOO, if you have folks out there who have computer access - please request at least one vote from them between now and tomorrow. I'm thankful!Labels: Activities, Challenges |

The Worth of A Woman |
One Flaw In Women
By the time the Lord made Woman, He was into his sixth day of working overtime.. An angel appeared and said, "Why are you spending so much time on this one?"
And the Lord answered, "Have you seen my spec sheet on her? She has to be completely washable, but not plastic, have over 200 movable parts, all replaceable and able to run on diet coke and leftovers, have a lap that can hold four children at one time, and a kiss that can cure anything from a scraped knee to a broken heart -and she will do everything with only two hands."
The angel was astounded at the requirements. "Only two hands!? No way! And that's just on the standard model? That's too much work for one day. Wait until tomorrow to finish."
"But I won't," the Lord protested. "I am close to finishing this creation that is so close to my own heart. She already heals hers elf when she is sick AND can work 18 hour days."
The angel moved closer and touched the woman. "But you have made her so soft, Lord."
"She is soft," the Lord agreed, "but I have also made her tough. You have no idea what she can endure or accomplish."
"Will she be able to think?", asked the angel.
The Lord replied, "Not only will she be able to think, she will be able to reason and negotiate."
The angel, noticing something, reached out, touched the woman's cheek. "Oops, it looks like you have a leak in this model. I told you that you were trying to put too much into this one."
"That's not a leak," the Lord corrected, "That's a tear!"
"What's the tear for?" the angel asked.
The Lord said, "The tear is her way of expressing her joy, her sorrow, her pain, her disappointment, her love, her loneliness, her grief and her pride."
The angel was impressed. "You are a genius, Lord. You thought of everything! Woman is truly amazing."
And she is! Women have strengths that amaze men. They bear hardships and they carry burdens, but they hold happiness, love and joy. They smile when they want to scream. They sing when they want to cry. They cry when they are happy and laugh when they are nervous. They fight for what they believe in. They stand up to injustice. They don't take "no" for an answer if there's a better solution. They go without so their family can have. They go to the doctor with a frightened friend. They love unconditionally. They cry when their children excel; cheer when friends get awards. They are happy when they hear about a birth or a wedding. Their hearts break when a friend dies. They grieve at the loss of a family member, yet they are strong when they think here is no strength left. They know that a hug and a kiss can heal a broken heart. Women come in all shapes, sizes and colors. They'll drive, fly, walk, run or e-mail to show how much they care. The heart of a woman is what makes the world keep turning. They bring joy, hope and love. They have compassion and ideals. Th ey give moral support to their family and friends. Women have vital things to say and everything to give.
THERE IS ONLY ONE FLAW IN WOMEN:
THEY ARE NOT AWARE OF THEIR WORTH.
Live simply. Love generously. Care deeply. Speak kindly.Labels: Bible Nuggets, Church Family, Pearls, personal |

Photo Hunters: Even I feel like a GIANT here! |
I am five foot tall - very vertically challenged except in Madurodam, The Hague, Netherlands...
I took these pix in May 1993 on my whirlwind tour of 11 countries in 17 days with my three "tweenage - 12, 13, 14" kiddos. This first photo shows Hayley and Cameron standing in front of some of the curious 1:25 scale modeled buildings one can find there. My children could almost relate to Kareem Abdul Jabar!!
This second photo was an absolutely marvelous replica of European majesty (perhaps some Euro friends can tell me the specifics - 1993 was too long ago for me to remember exactly what this was a model of). Notice how the full-sized people in the background dwarf the display! Fun place to go - wish I could do this one again!!!
