| DeBunk the Funk-y |

FUNKY - panicky; 1 a : a sudden overpowering fright; also : acute extreme anxiety b : a sudden unreasoning terror often accompanied by mass flight c : a sudden widespread fright concerning financial affairs that results in a depression of values caused by extreme measures for protection of property (as securities)2 slang : one that is very funny
Well, I call myself a 'textile artist' with a minor in ceramics/porcelain . . . but when Granddaughters Madison and Valorie come to spend the night, they call me 'Freaky' Mimomma. Go figure!
I make dolls! When the girls were very little, these now-5-year-old girls used to refuse to spend the night in the guest-doubles-as-a-doll-studio bedroom, emphatically stating, "Mimomma, that's creepy - you're freaking me out!" Today, however, they both wanted this finished product which I delivered to a sweet TN Chick named Grace...she named her babies, McKinley and Emily...

And here's McKinley and Emily with new Momma Grace.

Grace's Papa provided me with the huge assortment of doll parts you see in the top picture. So now Madison and Valorie can help make their own babies!! Both are eager to learn the fine art of Debunking the Funk-y!!! (And Mimomma is very excited to show her craft to her best 'dolls' Madison and Valorie!!!)

| PHOTO HUNTERS: Creative? You bet!! |

I'm an retired school marm - that's me! About three years before I medically retired, I purchased this old desk set from the Winton Blount Office Estate for $50.00 all four pieces. Although not nearly as beautiful or creative as my desk, the two overly large filing cabinets (SOLID HEAVY OAK) adorn either side of my bed and the 8' long credenza and two cabinets serve as hubby's and my chest of drawers and nightstands. The wood on those pieces were nearly perfect and needed no extra refinishing. However, the desk was another story! Stained with rings from coffee mugs and dotted with black and red magic markers as well as dings and dents, I got the idea for this desk. I coated the desk with a light gray sealer, then painted the whole thing yellow (MY fav color.) After it dried I painted random angled and width white stripes and stenciled red and blue stars and hearts. My daughter took actual hand drawn pictures that I had saved from some of my students and projected them onto the sides of the desk. Using tempera paints she carefully matched colors to the drawings and shellacked the entire piece to prevent the paint from chipping or cracking. Finally, I took some of my favorite quotes and carefully printed them on the top and in between paintings to remind me of how very important it was to be the best teacher I could be each day as there is NO "substitute" for good appropriate teaching. Students, parents, and fellow teachers loved hanging out by my magical desk!! For three years, it caught an earful each school day of priceless statements and watched as my younsters grew from day-to-day blossoming on to the next level in the educational system. Then PD struck me, and after a very mentally painful decision, I retired to home to get stronger. I still go volunteer throughout the school term and reminesce with colleagues and former students about - you guessed it - that colorful old desk! My desk was headed for eBay when I went back after Christmas break 2003 to rescue it! Seems the principal at the time thought I had 'left it' for the school to raise funds for technology. I adored my 'job' as Tech Ed, but my desk was far more priceless than any monies could have been raised! After all, the contributors to its designs were near and dear to my heart! I hope you enjoy my contribution to PH Creative as much as I enjoy sitting at my desk, reading books while grandchildren sit in my lap, or while I work there on the websites I design and maintain, or sometimes where I just lay my head down and think on the good things that the MASTER CREATOR gave us to visually enjoy! | Photo Hunters: Even I feel like a GIANT here! |
I am five foot tall - very vertically challenged except in Madurodam, The Hague, Netherlands...
I took these pix in May 1993 on my whirlwind tour of 11 countries in 17 days with my three "tweenage - 12, 13, 14" kiddos. This first photo shows Hayley and Cameron standing in front of some of the curious 1:25 scale modeled buildings one can find there. My children could almost relate to Kareem Abdul Jabar!!
This second photo was an absolutely marvelous replica of European majesty (perhaps some Euro friends can tell me the specifics - 1993 was too long ago for me to remember exactly what this was a model of). Notice how the full-sized people in the background dwarf the display! Fun place to go - wish I could do this one again!!!

| PhotoHunters: Shadows and Reflections |
Many have commented on how did I get that "dreamy" feel to my pictures for PH this week. Wish I could take all the credit for it...but the easiest and honest answer is that it was hazy out Friday morning due to the lack of rain here in Dixie. And, although stormclouds framed the perimeter of our horizon and it was thundering 'in the thickets,' we never got that much needed drenching on my side of town. The only altering I did was to crop out extraneous park items and add a feathered border. Other than that - GOD did the rest! Thanx for all the positive expressions and for the constructive critiques of these two photos! All were appreciated!!!

This week I 'made' a cheesy photo of one of my grands showing off her shadow and tho't several times about not putting up anything for this week... until today. I had three of the four granddaugthers and we went on a picnic at the local park which sports a fishing pond about one-half acre in diameter. While the two kindergarten-aged girls were discovering the finer features of the park I snapped this shot. IT's a 2-fer! They were playing in the "shadows" of the park's mulberry trees when they discovered their reflections in the pond. And being the SUPER Mimomma that I am, camera in hand, I took several shots before the reflective discovery became a thing of the past. As I 'reflected' over my pics, I discovered this to be far more eye-pleasing and a WHOLE LOT LESS CHEESY while fulfilling this week's theme!! We had a great Friday - enjoy a picture second of it with me!! Labels: grandchildren, photo hunters |

| Photo Hunters - Sweeeeet! |
My third granddaughter, Ansley Ruth-Mackenzie, was born in San Diego during April 2006. Recently, she along with other sibling and parents came to visit us in the Heart of Dixie. Those 'chocolate-colored' brown eyes, 'cherry-red' lips, and 'olive-tones' skin coloring coupled with her angelically sweet disposition make you just want to pick her up and 'devour' her! Is it any wonder why we have nicknamed her "Baby Ruth?" Everybody loves a brown-eyed girl!! Labels: grandchildren, photo hunters |

| Photo Hunters - Shiny |

It was amazing - totally AWESOME how shiny the Pacific Ocean was near Alaska on my 2006 Cruise getaway with my Hubby. I took both these photos (top at 2 a.m. outside Juneau and bottom at midnight from Ketchikan) from the "topless" deck of a Carnival cruise ship. As the boat pushed through the waters, reflections of midnight sun rays glistened like sparkling Topazes and Diamonds. Truly GOD the CREATOR is the MASTER ARTIST! | Grateful but not Dead |
| Thanx to all the well-wishers and those who left comments about my photo for this week. I find it really easy to share pix of my grandchildren but often forget to send a note of gratitude. Please read between the lines of this note - I thank you and ask GOD to continue to send 'showers of blessings' to you and yours! Labels: grandchildren, note of thanks, photo hunters |

| Photo Hunters: SHOES |

In the corner of my 'magic room' is a strand of well-loved shoes. These are special to me because the owners are a fire fighter, a rocket engineer, an interior decorator, a United States Marine Lance Corporal, a United States Air National Guard Staff Sargeant, a military wife and homemaker, children of THE KING of kings and LORD of lords. These shoes remind me of the good and bad, the important and insignificant, the happy and sorrowful experiences of my past 51 years. And on the eve of my 52nd birthday, I am glad that TN Chick decided that "Shoes" would be the topic of this week's photo hunters' pictologue. No one fills these shoes like my very own GOD-given children: Trae, Cameron and Hayley-Bryanna! And I thank my FATHER each and every day - and many many times throughout each day - that these shoes were fill with all those memories..... Labels: Children, personal, photo hunters |

| Photo Hunters |

At 48 hours old, our newest little blessing, Abby Grace is very alert and just ready to get 'into' the swing of things! Of course, Mimomma is doing a deja vu on this one as her Daddy has equally alert and slept his first night all the way through at 15 months old!!! (Just too much going on in 'the nut house' as Uncle Cameron labeled our home with his TAG teacher in first grade!) You can enjoy some of our first 60 minutes with Abby Grace at the video shares below! Labels: Children, grandchildren, introducing, photo hunters |
